Another Timing Belt Question

Yes, I've read ALL of the others.

My question has to do with the pointer that you use to line up the mark on the cam gear. It'd be a no brainer if it were a simple pointer, but mine is like a three pronged fork, or has three fingers on it.

When I took the timing cover off (after rotating to TDC), the mark on the cam gear was lined up with the right most finger (closest to the drivers wheelwell).

I loosened the tensioner & rotated the cam one belt tooth to the left & put it all back together, then started it up & set the timing...Still runs like crap.

Has anyone seen one of these three fingered pointers? How'd you set yours?

All Lima 4 cylinders have the three marks on the rear timing cover. You set the triangle on one of the cam gear teeth as close to the center mark as possible.shady

I should have included in my post that the cam marks are set with the crankshaft timed correctly also. The keyway on the crank should point straight up. This is TDC for #1 cylinder. There is a diamond on the auxilary shaft, and it also goes straight up. There is also a diamond on the cam sprocket as the two sprockets are identical and interchangeable. The triangle is used when timing the cam, and the diamond is ignored.shady
