Ammeters suck!

That's why I destroyed my ammeter gauge and soldered in a volt meter into it. All in all very easy, I just have to remember to ground the yellow/light green at the voltage regulator. Why they don't make a drop in kit, I'll never know, but boy this would be easy to manufacture.

I'm curious now, what exactly was the issue? Not trying to question your resolve, I'm only willing to hear what happened knowing it's a possibility I may have to do something about it to someday.

Problem: ammeter never worked
Plan: replace it with a voltmeter
Solution: voltmeter in place

My charging system is like perfect, ammeter was always centered in the middle, it never under or over charged just perfect equilibrium!

Likewise when I swapped to a tach cluster the charging light never comes on either!

Your little mod would be really nice in the charging light window below the oil pressure light...
