The issue with Linux, Ubutu or something else is that they don't necissarily suppor the apps I NEED to run.
OR I wind up forced to BUY some app that doesn't work the way I want it to.
Frankly aside from online communication, Forums and E-mail
my computer is used mostly for audio crunching.
My ripping app is a pre-beta program called "Exact Audio Copy"
(EAC V0.99PB4 to be specific) which I also use to burn Audio CD's
(CD-Text actually)
My compression program (to make mp3's from WAV's) is
commercial software NCH "Switch sound", which is a stand alone compressor/converter.
I use a freeware id3 tagger program, Tagscanner 5.0
and finally I use an earlier version of Roxio to burn playable
mp3CDs (for use in my truck) and burning archive discs
Currently these take the form of single layer DVD's...
But when I have time and ambition I'll be upgrading to newer
DVD burning software.
Belatedly after going through much of the recent aggrevation
it was realized that during some 3:30am working on the #%W$!?&
computer session, after a previous crash, I inadvertantly installed the
wrong version of IE, I used 5.0 instead of 6.0
IE5.0 won't even finish loading ebay pages without getting hung-up.
and when I say "hung up" I mean Control-Alt-Del woundn't resolve
the situation....
that is if the keyboard and mouse would even respond...
Often only cycling the power switch would do anything...
