Aight. Driving to work. After about 30 seconds on the road my sit bag light starts flashing.

It flashes, stops, flashrs, etc.
After that cycles 4-5 times it stays lit solid.
Pulled over. Turned truck off. Started up. Same deal.

Is the thing gonna blow up in my face lol

What's goin on here.

Stopped to get gas. Upon returning to the road it was gone. And didn't come back on till about 45 minutes after.

I also noticed when it happened the passenger airbag "off" switch stayed solid for the first two flashes, then stayed off.

Could this be a sensor issue?

I don't know a lot about airbag systems, but had a similar issue on a Taurus I owned. talked to a mechanic about it, and he told me if the light is on the bag will not deploy, even in a collision. so don't worry about it "blocking your vision" as you drive

count the number of flashes. Example. Flashes five times in a row then stops #5, then flashes three times in a row then stops #3. Then flashes five again stops and followed by three flashes and repeats.

Its giving you a code. In the example above it would be a code 53. I dont have the Ranger code printout but im sure its on the sight somewhere. once you have the code look it up and find what the problem is. The code will pretty much lead you straight to the issue with not much guess work needed after the fact.

Also when the SRS light is on the circuit is disabled and the system will not work.

Why is everyone so afraid that an airbag light means the system is about to just deploy everything all by itself?

As said count the flashes, post the number, when I finally see it I will look up the flash codes and give you an idea of what you are looking at. The problem with the flash codes is that they aren't as detailed as the actual scanner codes and don't always get you to a fix.

Heh, code 32 is high resistance in the driver's airbag circuit. Might be a bad clock spring.

Still have horn and all cruis buttons work/light up. Is it possible just the airbag portion would break? I'm guessing its a ribbon wire in there right?

Yes and yes.

It seems to me that the airbag portion is more sensitive than the others. I rarely see a bad clock spring cause anything but airbag problems.

anyone know where to buy a new clockspring from other than the dealer? as im sure up here they will want a crap ton of money for it.

cant find it on rockauto
