The air chisel is the best tool for pissing off everybody in the shop and keeping them out of your bay.

I still use some of my dad's air tools: impact gun, cutoff wheel, air chisel, etc. I do it sparingly because we live in the suburbs and have neighbors close by. It can get pretty noisy. The battery technology is improving so much, air tools are quickly becoming obsolete. Ok, maybe not obsolete, but just not practical for most people.

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on some of the milwaukee battery powered stuff. I have a bit of craftsman 19.2 and my dad has some 18 volt Ryobi stuff. It's more for drilling and woodworking than for mechanical work. I was thinking about one of those impact style tools to help remove stubborn nuts and bolts. I do pretty good with hand tools, but I am starting to get the hang of this "work smarter, not harder" thing.

The Milwaukee stuff is definitely worth it. I used 19.2 Craftsman stuff for a long time, but then the trim saw and sawzall both died and I decided it was time to upgrade. For the most part the 1/2” M18 high torque impact will either break it loose or break it off when paired with a 6.0ah High Output pack. It will work pretty good with other packs, but the high output ones definitely kick it up a notch. 1,400 ft/lbs of torque in reverse is no joke.

I've seen some videos on the grand ol internet where battery power tool and sexual would be together in the description.


Pretty neat.


I really enjoy learning about new things and cultures boy.. I tell ya. Real eye opener on the many many things that can be accomplished with a sawzall.

That looks familiar. I had a trailer house years ago that had a big ass central air package unit outside that had two big flex tubes for air to flow through...frickin cats ripped them open and it started air conditioning the space under my house. I fixed it by cutting the bottom out of a 5 gallon bucket that happened to be the same OD as the ID of the tubes... roll of duct tape later and I was cool again!

For most jobs, cordless tools will do the job. Every once in a while, nothing beats a air powered tool to get the job done that a battery powered tool just doesn't have enough in it. At home, it's corded, battery, and manual tools. Mainly because I just don't have the room for a compressor.

At work, it's air tools, mainly because sparks and fuel vapors don't play well together.

The battery powered stuff is great, the only complaint is the beating the big battery powered impacts put on your wrists and forearms, for that I prefer air, also, there is no replacement for a long barrel air hammer or needle scaler in the cordless world just yet. Mid torque and compact impacts are pretty amazing and they do 99 percent of what I need to do without issue. Air or electric ratchets have their place but I can't stand either of them (just personal preference).
