OK on my 2.9l. The air box is missing two hoses on it. i noticed in a picture that one of the hoses go to the intake (not the huge one to the throttle body). and there was one that went under neath the battery? can anyone help me out? and would this solve my idle/ fuel milage problem? thanks

If they hook up to 2 little metal posts on the side of the lid than they are just vacum hoses and do not do much i have mine disconnected because i have a custom intake and i didnt notice any difference in fuel idle...

ok i was just wondering.........i go thorugh a tank of fuel really fast like 40 Bucks of fuel at $1.02 alitre in about 240KM of driving mostly highway driving aswell..... someone told me that it could be the Mass Air Flow sensor? if it is and it can be cleaned where is it located?

It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. Plug any hoses that aren't connected, or connect them where they go. Should be a vacuum diagram placard under the hood.

your ranger does not have a mass air flow senser so that wouldnt be the problem

You're right, one goes on top of the Intake Plennum, and the other connects to the lower part of the airbox intake tube (near the hose that leads to the exhaust manifold) Easy fix for this is buy a cone filter and attach it to the tube that connects the airbox and throttle body or just to the throttle body if you like, then get a vacuum plug for the nipple on the Intake Plennum. Then, listen to it whistle at about 3500 RPM!!

Where would that be dont see one.

Where would that be dont see one.

placard/sticker for the vacuum diagram can be just in front or near by the radiator. or on the under side of the hood.

IF...one has gotten carried away with power washer in the past....it might have been erased/tore off

Basically it connects the upper airbox to the lower airbox tube. There should be a rectangular tube going into the airbox. The line goes from the airbox (air filter housing) to the rectangular tube somewhere near the cylindrical tube that leads to the exhaust manifold.

I have a question about something of the same matter.

I am thinking of replacing the airbox with a cone filter and was wondering about what to do with the large hose running from the intake scoop(for lack of better word) to the exhaust manifold. Do I need to run it somewhere or can I just plug it? and also I noted the same thing with the vacuum lines from the airbox, the one running post filter to the intake scoop is still there, however I am missing the other one. There is however no missing line from anywhere else from what I can see. The vacuum diagram also doesn't dictate a line running from the airbox to anything.

Cheers

You can take the tube between the "intake scoop" and exhaust manifold shroud off. All this does is warm up your truck quicker by taking heat from the exhaust manifold and recirculating it through the engine. The other hose that you say to be missing is a vacuum hose that connects right behind the throttle body and on the top/side (passenger) of the intake plennum. Descriptive enough? ha ha. If you don't have a line coming off of there then it should have a vacuum seal on it. If you do go through with this, keep your original airbox and everything else connected to it if you live in a state that has emissions (I live in CA, are we the only state?).

Alright, thank you for the input. I will remove the connection from the exhaust manifold and I will see if I'm missing a line to behind the intake plennum.

We do have emission control up here in Vancouver, Canada. But I found a loop hole to get around it.

So, just to get this straight. Do I need the vacuum line from the airbox to the back of the plennum or is there actually nothing that needs to draw off the intake when I get rid of the airbox?

Cheers

No, you don't need it. I don't have mine connected. I just have a vacuum seal where the line is supposed to connect on the intake plennum.

ok, So I went took a look this morning and could not find where the line from the airbox was supposed to go. So I took pictures and was hoping someone could take a look and tell me if the lines are running to the correct places or if it is all FUBAR.... This truck has had a history of bad repairs from what I can tell so I wouldn't be surprised if someone messed with the routing of the lines...

So my main question is where on the engine "E" should go seeing as if everything else is right then I have a leak from where "E" connects to the plennum...

Cheers

I am fairly fimilar with what my '88 had, but that vacuum routing seems awfully fishy..

Like the carbon canister ran to a vacuum nipple under the throttle body. And the ""B" goes to the other side.." went to E. But what goes to B? The MAP line you have might be FPR. Does you have an auto or manual? Cruise, etc?

Only way to "fix" it is to positively identify what is what, and cap off any additional taps. A vacuum tap is a vacuum tap, not sure why you have a vacuum line on one side of the plenum going to the other, it's the same vacuum source..
