My credo
Even though you have a good excuse for failing, you still failed.
All,
I'm sure this information is out there but I'm having trouble finding it. I have leather seats from a 2017 Ford Edge (the car, not the Ranger model) and I've done a lot of work to get them to bolt up but I can't get the airbag light on my dash to go off. I'm trying to preserve the original Ranger seats to sell them at a later date. For the new passenger seat, I will use the factory seat belt receiver from the factory center seat belt. This leaves the original seat belt electrical connection vacant which makes the airbag light on the dash stay on. What can I do to defeat this light? I will have to repeat this when I get around to the driver's side. Please help.

If you defeat the light the airbag still won't work. Can you get a 17 Edge EVTM and figure out if it's possible to adapt the wiring to plu into the truck harness?

WAG:
I'm thinking it's a simple contact switch inside the seatbelt. And if you can jumper the 2 wires together the light will turn off.

The concern though is that the airbag may be configured to only go off if your seat belt is buckled, so bypassing the buckle, you might want to use the seatbelt all the time to be safe. But I’m pretty sure it’s just a contact switch in the buckle like @alwaysFlOoReD said.
