Hey guy's I do a shit load of towing with my truck, the trailer never comes off the truck. I also do some plowing during the winter. I'm looking for a tough aftermarket Tranny. Any suggestion ? Ya before you reply with get a bigger truck , I'm not.

Ok....first off what transmission do you have now? What motor also? That would be the places to start.

in all honesty? C4, its an almost direct swap, and built right would be awesome. But anything over stock is goint to cost you.

I'm not afraid of spending some money. U say its an almost direct swap, what would one have to mod to make it fit?

You probably won't find alot, but you could always contact a transmission shop and see what they have to offer. If you are towing all the time I would add another aux cooler inline with the other transmission cooler and maybe a pyrometer to keep an eye on the transmission temp.

I already have an extra tranny cooler on it now. I'll ad a temp gauge too. Thanks Guys

Thanks Richard. I've seen this site in the past but I never bookmarked it.

there is a guy that sells an adapter plate to bolt a ford small block trans to a 2.8,2.9, both 4.0s. well i remember seeing this a few years ago. if you decided to go with a "c4". I would go with the c5. it was mated behind the 83-84 rangers with the 2.8 which is the same as the 4.0 bell housing. and you will be able to bolt your stock ranger t-case in. and you can rebuild the trans with c4 guts.

sorry for the miss spelling or any thing. i have been up for 18 hours and pulled a 14 hour day on the road. so good night

I thought the 2.9 and 4.0 were the same, not the 2.8? But with an adapter plate this is just nit-picking.
