anybody running an aftermarket cam. what kind did you get and how much power did it add

Several years ago I ran a Comp 422 cam in a 4.0L motor I built, with other modifications. I think it helped. I can't really say for certain, as the rest of the motor was modified.

I didn't feel that I lost anything on the low end, and it really picked up on the high end. It made more power and torque at any RPM that I wanted to run it at.

The other modifications included: SOHC flat top pistons (for a measured and calculated 11:1 compression ratio), ported large chamber heads (more of a simple port cleanup and polish than anything), headers, and larger fuel injectors for running E85 fuel. So maybe that helped out too.

It ran real good, but something kept leaking antifreeze into the oil. Otherwise I would have taken it to the dyno. I guess you take your chances with junkyard motors.

Pics available on request.
