Advice on a Ranger I may buy from a friend.

Auto versus Manual. Depends on you....... Are you going to do the work yourself??? If not there is no real difference.

A manual clutch lasts about 100K if you treat it right. An auto trans last about 200K if you take care of it. A clutch job costs about $1100 to have done. An auto trans costs somewhere around 2K to 2200 to have done. So you take your choice. If you do mostly in city driving, that manual may drive you crazy.

Thanks guys.

I will be on the lookout for whatever I can get for around 3k. If that includes a 6 I will take it as long as it will hold up as good as the 4.

My GF can't do manual but I will do my best to teach her if that is what I end up with.

My boat is about 1k so I think even the 4 should handle it.

Yes I would love a 4x4 for dealing with the ramps but I Know they are more expensive and something else to go wrong.

As far as who does the work, I can do minor stuff but leave the rest to the pro's. Who knows, maybe I will learn in time, like I have done with my outboard.

Thanks again...

Well I ended up buying almost new.

I looked and looked and just could not find what I wanted. I saw almost new ones ('11's) that people (probably fleet) abused the heck out of . Not sure how they can do that with an almost new truck but they did.

I ended up with a basic model but was very clean : '11 with 63k
Yes got a payment now, but at least the truck should last me a long time.

Just picked it up this pm ...can't wait it to hit the roads tomorrow!!!

a new happy ranger owner finally!

I was lucky last month to find a 1994 ranger(my profile pic)

I keep hearing people saying rangers are tanks, but then why would you put them through that kind of abuse just to figure that out?

Mine has had a new paint job(dodgy, and chipping in more than enough places, makes me angry) and has already had an engine rebuild in only 150k miles to the body.

They are durable, but they are not indestructible ffs. I grind my teeth when I see newer rangers in worse condition than mine is.

So let's hope you can grow to love it, and treat it like an investment, not like a crappy Honda civic.

Congratulations [emoji3]
