Adding Power Steering

Featured Build Threads

Just to double check your original plan, all you would need is the two hoses, pump, bracket, pulley, steering box and pitman arm. If you could find that in a junkyard you'd be set pretty easy. Just make sure you get the right belt setup, there's a few different types of tensioners and some are obsolete like the one on my '90, I'm going to have to get creative once the pulley bearing finally dies... The electric unit sounds interesting and I need to look into it one of these days, maybe for the Explorer project since the wimpy rack and pinion pump won't be up to the task...
Junkyards are not really a viable option around here. but even then, due to all the salt, everything is rusted solid.
not worth the effort, when rock auto has everything i need for less than $500.

My only concern was if the steering shaft needed to be modified.
done this swap on many vehicles through the years, and a few have required some manipulation of one sort or another.

For example, with my 68 and 72 C10's, the power box is longer than the manual box, so I had to collapse the steering shaft to make it mate up correctly at the rag joint.
this one however sounds like a direct swap, so we're good.

also, don't think pulleys and brackets will be an issue. I installed a new tensioner pulley when i replaced the alternator (they're readily available).
also, there are several PS/AC brackets currently available on ebay.
I'd probably pick up an AC delete pulley, since the AC belt appears easier to find than the PS only one.
the idler pulley is also readily available.

In regards to EPAS, it is indeed tempting.
it would've been a life saver when i swapped the 305 into my RX7.
That was a huge PITA, adapting the GM pump to the mazda power rack.
took a while to find a shop that was willing to make me a custom pressure line.

My work uses O'Reilly's and Co-Op as sources for the smaller (1in or less) hydraulic hoses. There are a couple shops we use to rebuild cylinders that can do everything else for. Our largest stuff is 3 in sometime 12ft long.
