I replaced front rotors and pads on a 2WD 2010 Ranger, and now both ABS and Stability lights are on. How do I reset the system to get rid of the lights?

Thanks in advance.

Get codes. You just can't ask questions about lights without codes. Without codes all we can do is guess.

First of all I don't have a code reader, and since it's a holiday weekend the dealers are closed. If the dealer was to give me the codes I wouldn't be coming here for help.

I don't expect you to have a code reader, not one for ABS anyway, most of them are expensive. I also understand that most dealerships are closed on the weekends, especially a holiday weekend.

None of that does anything to change the fact that we can't do anything more than take a wild ass guess about what is causing your issue without codes.

I'm going to GUESS that the parts store gave you the wrong rotors, without a tone ring for the ABS.

I don't think that is terribly likely. I believe ABS was standard by 2010. Additionally, Napa doesn't have distinct listings for ABS vs non-ABS for that year, which just strengthens that belief.

The rotors had a tone ring. I never touched any wires or sensors during the brake job. Just pulled old rotor off and put the new one on. Does anyone know what a dealer charges to check the codes?

Called the Ford dealer and told him what happened, and they said to take it to Autozone to check the codes. I went to Autozone and they said it was coming from the left front wheel. The code was C1296, but he said he didn't know what that was.

LF wheel speed sensor signal fault. So bad or damaged tone ring, or more likely, you go the sensor wire caught in something and now it's rubbed through and grounding out.

Thanks, I'll tear into it this weekend now that I know what to look for.

I took the ABS wheel sensor off on the LF wheel and noticed scrape marks on half of the sensor which led me to believe the new rotor tone ring must have a slight bend in it. Gotta love those Chinese rotors from Advance Auto Parts. I can't find anyone who makes rotors in the USA.

I always go OEM for brake parts.

We have stopped pricing after market rotors at my shop because our price and the aftermarket prices are usually only off by a few bucks, and our stuff is higher quality. On brake pads we usually beat Napa on price for the same quality of part.

I took back rotor to Advance and exchanged it for another one. Put new rotor on along with new sensor and lights are still on. What next?

Update: Went to the Ford dealer and they confirmed the Chinese made rotors from Advance was the problem. Mechanic said the gap between the tone ring and wheel sensor was too wide. Dealer ordered Motorcraft rotors to fix problem. Nothing was wrong with old wheel sensor after all. Mechanic said he has better luck with NAPA on parts when he does side jobs, but still made in China auto parts. It's pretty bad when you can't even work on your own car because of the inferior parts available through aftermarket.
