The way I do them on Escapes (and this should work just as well on an IFS Ranger) is this:
1) Remove the 2 caliper bracket bolts (not the caliper bolts, the bracket, not the caliper bolts) and pull the whole thing off.
2) Put two lugs back on to hold the rotor in place
3) Remove the half-shaft from the hub splines
4) pop the outer tie-rod
5) Pop the upper ball joint out and swing the knuckle off to the side.
