I have a 98 ranger 4.0 with torsion bar is it possible to do a solid axle I've searched with not an exact answer I'm just not sure with the torsion bars actually I have no idea ?if it can be done ...and if it can is it a pita. Thnx

Search more. It's been done. You don't re-use ANY of the stock front suspension. Arms, torsion bars, all of it goes.

Really ....ok now I gotta find a reliable shop that knows what there doing thnx gribly

all i gotta say dude if ur having a shop do it, i hope u have money cause it will cost alot, doing it urself would run u about 600 plus or minus but now ur adding labor on to it so u will be looking at about 2000 maybe more

Agreed. I'm Starting on mine beginning of July. I lucked the f out and grabbed my D44/Ford 9 combo for around 350. I doubt I'll be under 800 when I'm done and that's all labor done by me

Sent from my iPhone while clubbing baby seals. There's an app for that!

I laugh at anyone saying they can solid axle a truck for under a grand and make it any better then it was stock.... Gears, locker, bearings, brakes, balljoints etc..., it all adds up quick!

Why would you laugh at me. That isn't nice..

Yeup...I'll have around 3500 into my swap without buying tires. That's all parts, all the labor is myself.

I was thinking about $3000 to $3500 for the swap so I'm pretty close

It gets costly quick. 3500 will cover the axles ( gears , lockers, ext). What kind of suspension are you planning on running? A junkyard leafspring will be far cheaper than a triangulated 4 link with coilovers.

i'm at around $400 on my SAS and i'll easily spend another $500 before i have it where i want it. i'm not regearing right now, so that saves me a lot. just trying to get it under the truck so i can drive it

lots of guys on here have SAS'd an IFS truck though. just search and study their builds. this is a huge site, if you think of an idea, chances are someone on here has already done it

I have over 5000 with mine, With the tires/wheels, the rebuilding of the axles, gears/lockers, lift springs front and rear, redoing all the brakes, steering box, steering shaft, the crossover steering, and the steel/brackets to build your suspension mounts and all the little pieces like tools/supplies. I did everything myself so their is no labor in what i spent. Plus the wife is pissed on what i spent.

Where are you located? What will you be using the truck for, and do you want to go all out and go 1 tons? I'd be willing to rake this on if your not too far away...

You dont fall into that category, as a D30 is technically 'weaker' than a D35 :thefinger:

Jokes aside, its amazing how quick things add up. Even for my hybrid TTB, Ive got 450$ in JUST ball joints and wheel bearings...
