I need some help fella's. About a year ago I had my A4LD rebuilt, its been in and out of the shop because it leaks fluid like its cool. It has a new convertor, and about 3k on the rebuild. It seems to be leaking from the poppit valve on the top of the trans, as well as the bell housing area. I am fed up with this thing. Ive read about the bellhousing bushing, but the transmission guy said that the rebuild kits come with some sort of bushing and he knocks the old one out and presses in the new one. Is he full of it? I heard that it HAD to be machined. I am NOT going to take the truck to the same guy. I actually am thinking of getting a completly diff A4ld. Does anyone have experience with Phoenix Trans? They are on ebay, but it LOOKs as if they would be a good place to get a trans. Im willing to pay, I just want my truck on the road. :dunno:

If the converter bushing is not installed PERFECTLY, it's gonna tear up the new bushing and begin leaking again... and it doesn't take lone for that to happen. Ford supplied it's "trannie techs" with it's own "Ford Rotunda" alignment tool just for that purpose. If your trans guy is just "ballparking it" he's a hack. Find a shop that knows what NEEDS to be done and will warranty the work for at least a year.

below is a link for a trans supplier and another that is a good write up on these transmissions.

The site that you listed seems expensive, I really dont want to put an $1800 trans in this truck, its just a daily driver not a performance machine. The trans shop has that tool, I already looked into that. The warranty is up, unfortunatly for over half of the 12mo warranty I was deployed to Iraq.

I agree with you on the expensive part... it was only put there as an idea. If you explained to the shop your situation about being over seas for an extended period of time, maybe they might cut you some slack. I know it's a long shot, but it's worth a try.
