A long shot

Upon being notified my order for a new ECM was cancelled, I figured I would try one from another truck (1995 Ford F150). I havent had the chance to hook it up yet and try it but I figured I would ask for some opinions first. My truck being a 1990 Ford Ranger I know its a long shot but cant hurt to try right? As far as I can tell both of the ECM's are both EEC-IV type:icon_confused:

The computer might get confused with the fact that your engine is missing two cylinders.

The engine computers are the same series, but each computer is programmed to manage a specific engine, drivetrain, and accessories. That programming will be different for different cylinder counts (and numbers of spark plugs and fuel injectors), displacement, transmissions, sensors, etc. They can't really be "reprogrammed" after they're first programmed at the factory (you can hook up an external chip with a new program, but nobody sells those chips commercially, and to get one custom programmed would probably be harder than just swapping the matching engine from the F150 into your ranger.)

It's going to have to come from the same date range of Ranger.

Same engine type, displacement, and # of cylinders.

Car-part.com is probably your best bet. Or eBay.

A long shot would be getting one from the bone yard with same drive train, A/C? A stretch would be getting a refurbished one. Probably no chance of getting a new one. Have you gone trrough and tested all the inputs?

Post up your wants in the classifieds. You should look for a ecm from the same year and motor/trans type.
