Sounds like the blower speed resistor is the issue.

Sorry to rebump this but my Ranger is in the shop today getting smogged. he's checking the whole truck for issues and I mentioned the speed resister and he said he'll take a look at it. Whats a fair price to fix this?

it was a leak in the heater control valve
