I have the vehicle mentioned in the title and I have a clunk in the rear end when accelerating. I do have some axle wrap from worn springs but the main issue lies in the spiders. Bear with as I'm not familiar with all the technical names of the parts. But, I removed the carrier pin and found that the two spider gears attached are worn. The pin doesn't show or feel excessively worn. But, the two gears are sloppy on the pin and have a few chunks missing on the teeth. What I need to know is, can I purchase these gears on there own or do I have to buy the whole carrier unit? I do have the trac lok unit if that's a big deal. Everything else looks really good like the ring and pinion and the other spiders. Does anyone know of anywhere that sells a rebuild kit or am I going to have to purchase these from ford? That's not a huge deal if that's the case (my dad is a diesel tech for a large dealership) I just want to keep the repair as cheap as possible while doing it right.

Here are some pics.

I believe you can buy them seperately. You definitely do not need the whole carrier. I'd hit up the junkyard for used or call Yukon for new, I think they sell them. I think spiders from an open diff can be used in a traclok but it may be the other way around. It does work one way but not the other, but I can't remember which.

Stupid spiders seem to be real weak in these. The only set I could find for my 8.8 were a little chewed up so I sanded the rough spots down :secret:...really a shitty fix but it has held so far.

Has anyone ever purchased these gears on there own? If so where did you purchase them? Would I be better of with stock ford gears or aftermarket fine?

I went to the junkyard to get mine. I paid $51 for the whole carrier which beat $450 I got quoted from the dealership.

Well ordered all my parts for the rebuild. It's everything minus carrier ring and pinion. It came out to $214. I don't think that's too bad.
