Son's 99 2.5 with a manual trans just stopped running, turns over well, getting gas, no signs of ignition. He has "reprogrammed" or "chipped" the ECM. Where is the ECM located? Any suggestions of a check list of items that may prevent it from starting? Could it be the ECM? Could it be a crank sensor, if so, where is it located? Any help is greatly appreciated.

On mustang the ecm is located in the pass side footwell. If he has a chip that plugs into the ecm, then I can almost guaruntee its not fastened in place. they have a tendancy to wiggle and short the ecm. Take some duct tape or packing tape. (something strong) And tape the chip in place to it wont wiggle. the truck will start. I hada chip from sct before they are notorious.

If its reprogrammed i dunno what to tell you. If you have fuel check if you have spark. Check to see if you have power to the starter. CHeck to see if the battery terminals have any corrosion.... Keep checking things one by one till you make a lil progress. Some more details of what the truck is doing will help.

Can you take a vid of trying to start the truck?

I should have listed more details. Tried starting fluid, though not 100% sure, I do not think I am getting any spark. Power on the battery is fine, cranks with no issues, power to starter fine, visual (it was late, had limited lighting) did not reveal anything looking disconnected so far. I am going to start with the ECM, your suggestion may be on target, not sure how well he secured the chip. I did check, he just added a chip, no reprogramming done. I am alos worried the crank sensor may have given up, not sure, will also inspect (carefully) the timing belt. Thank you for your reply, I post any progress or challenges.

Was able to crawl under the car in daylight, it looks like it has thrown the timing belt. Was not on the cog and dig not move when I had my wife turn the car over. Should I fing I am wrong, I will update the posting.
