'98 ranger running lean no vac leaks MAF or Fuel pump?

No, as stated above, fuel pressure isn't fine, first time i checked it key on was only giving me 10PSI.

As I stated above I don't know what the FP should be. it sounds like you do so you should find the fpr and replace it and if that doesn't work you should replace the pump.

This is good info for me when the truck is turned to on(not running) what should the FP be

the FP should be above 50psi key on engine off.

Then you know your problem. Make sure you post a conclusion

just for giggles i am sure you changed the $8 relay. one other thought do you think a truck that thru lean codes and only lean codes because of a fpr issue or a fp issue would fail an emissions test. I don't know just wonderinghttp://www.therangerstation.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Actually, I don't know what the problem is for sure, the pump seems to pump a little at first, but not enough, but it seems capable of putting out the PSI. I would like to get some confirmation on the regulator before I just replace it, replacing parts on whims usally adds up pretty darn fast.

I switched the relay with the AC relay, same behavior.

Lack of pressure may not make it fail an emissions test, but with the check engine light on I'm sure it could.

The PCV seemed fine but I replaced it anyway because it was $2. replaced the entire fuel pump/regulator/sender hanger......everything.

CEL came on 11 miles down the road......

I just picked up a stock air box and a brand new paper filter, Installed that just for giggles. Battery is disconnected for comp to reset right now, I want it to re-learn with the stock intake.

Cleaning the MAF before did nothing, are there any tests I can run on it to check it? I figure it either has to be the MAF or some vacuum leak I am not seeing.

I talked to the local ford dealership, they told me that for $92 they can tell me exactly what is wrong...... I have never paid to have a vehicle worked on but it seems very appealing to end this crapshoot.

'k so will your fuel pressure guage reach your wipers? if so zip tie it on and drive it. Watch for the drop in pressure. If it doesn't lose pressure, double check for vacumn leaks even down to the evap vent solenoid. Its inline to your charcoal canister. Cap it and drive again. Next step would be lazy O2's but both banks is kinda rare. Points toward a vac leak or bad MAF sensor. Yea I know both are pricey. Best bet have a bud with a scan tool that can watch the inputs? My 2 cents

No, the gauge isn't quite long enough. I think I will just have ford read the inputs for me. Hard to do having never paid anyone to fix anything for me but.....better than throwing $$$ down the drain.

Took the Leap & went to the Dealer.

Ok Guys,
I've had this problem for a couple of years; yes years:annoyed:.
I changed, cleaned, swapped out with lower mileage junk yard parts and still no long term results:icon_confused:. Today I took it to the dealer to have it checked. I thought it was an April fools joke when they said that there would be no charge (FREE):yahoo:. The diagnosis was an intake vacuum leak and would cost $420 to fix; I declined. I did try spraying carb cleaner around the intake area before taking it in and found no reaction. I'm finding a complete gasket kit for around $80 on the web but other forum advisers say to use the rubber and not the cork so I will check my local parts store for the rubber ones. I will post my results in a couple weeks when I get around to doing it myself.
Cheers

I finally got a new fuel pump and a lower mileage MAF from the junkyard, also reverted to the stock airfilter. No CEL for a few thousand miles but my mileage is still junk, 13 in town i think and 19 freeway. IDK, it does have 30" tires which are a little bigger than the stock 235's.
