Got the front end about done. Just gotta finish the brakes but couldn't resist putting the tires on. I gotta make a new front trac bar because I made this one too long and the axle is pushed to the right side.

Is it too late to push the whole axle forward? Gotta make sure that track bar is centered between the frame rails and paralel to the drag link. Gonna look sick though. might have to cut those fenders.

Axle is pushed about an inch forward right now. I'm probably gonna leave it for now. I just wanna get it together and driveable in 2 weeks cuz school starts back up. Right now the drag link and trac bar are the same angle. Hopefully when I shorten it a couple inches it won't throw it too far off. I'm starting on the rear tonight.

well its mobile now. Still needs a few things ironed out like shocks, bed put back on, put some balancing beads in the tires, and an alignment. What u - joint do I need to adapt my factory front driveshaft to the dana 44? And any suggestions on an affordable shock? I'm thinking about getting some from James Duff

sweet truck, any more pics of the tranny xmember

What i would do is get a slip yoke thats the same size joint as the yoke on the 44, this way you dont have a bastard joint, which are the weak links. Make sure to phase them correctly. Looks good, and as stated, you'll probably want to cut those fenders for more flex...

Took it down a short trail for its maiden voyage and have something going on in the front diff. I set the gears up and it was only the 2nd time I set gears up so I'm a suspicious it's something to do with that.

Anyone have pics or suggestions on how to mount the rear shocks for best flex and ride. The stock mounts look like it would impede flex. I have to make new shock mounts for the axle so I'm willing to do the same for the frame end

A lot of guys leave the rear mounts alone. They work well where they are. I myself plan to extend mine straight up above the frame, basically moving them directly up from the factory location by about 3 inches. This will allow a longer shock to be used, and therefore more travel. I should note that I can move my mounts only because I have a body lift. Otherwise it wouldn't be possible.

And then I picked this up after Christmas. 1998 with a 5.0, runs and drives for $500. Has a freeze plug that rotted out tho. I'll be rebuilding the engine and trans and they'll make they're way into the ranger this summer hopefully.

Nice. Go to glissons and pick yourself up a 96-97 ecu & engine/trans harness, and it'll basically be a plug n play swap...
