What's the easiest way to remove the engine? I'm thinking I will have to remoel the tranny (automatic) and engine together since the engine is locked up and I can't turn it to get to the torque converter bolts. Any thoughts and/or tips? I don't have a shop with a lift to do this in so realize I will be using my floor jack and engine hoist to do this with.

The best way to do it, lift or not, is the take the trans out of the vehicle, but don't unbolt the converter. Just unbolt the trans case and pull it straight back as far as you can. This will make a huge mess, so have an oil pan under the bell as you pull the trans off.

I have this transmissions jack, and it is wonderful:

I would highly recommend it for this project.

The other option is to pull the heads and try to remove whatever is keeping the engine from turning (reads "shattered piston").

I agree with what said, however, try not to wiggle them about too much so as to avoid damaging the front seal or pump on the transmission. when you have the transmission out, remove the torque converter from the motor and re-insert it into the transmission to avoid it getting damaged when you pull the motor.

I got the engine to spin finally. After removing the top end of the engine including the heads I found my problem. I kept working the engine back and forth and it turned loose. However, out came a piston from the number 6 cylinder. The connecting rod was bent and the bolts were broken. I'll find the rest of it when I get the oil pan off. Other than the broken connecting rod it looks clean. No oil build up anywhere that I can see. May decide to rebuild this engine for a spare.
