I bought this fuel harness but it is too long because it is for an extended cab. I thought I could cut it to the length I need snd then clamp the ends back on but ive been told that it would leak and I wouldn't be able to ever get my theory to work. Has anyone ever did this modification before? Please give me your thoughts or other ideas. Thanks

I re-used the connectors with regular rubber fuel hose on my '93 a while back. Holding great so far. Not sure how well it will work on that OEM style fuel line material. The fitting is barbed. In theory, you should be able to do it.

You may have trouble pushing the fitting into that harder fuel line material. I have a feeling they use heat somehow at the factory to make everything cooperate. Also, if you dig into the barbs when cutting the fittings out, that would introduce a path for leaks.

Dorman has a selection of fuel line repair kits, I would shorten the supply line(30psi pressure) at the fuel filter end, in case it does leak, nothing hot there, lol.

The Return line on the Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR) has 0psi pressure so can be shorten any where, but I would do it down by fuel filter, and use barbed connector and hose clamps

That style you can't cut. I believe those are cut from a sheet, and then heated until soft and wrapped around the fitting. That bit facing the camera is where it gets crimped off.

I've done it on the flexible nylon stuff that was used on the older Rangers. There is as tool for installing the ends into the nylon line.

You may be able to coil the supply line, under the cab so no cutting needed

Thanks for the replies. So only one line has pressure? Obviously the one to the pump. I dont think it is long enough to coil but ill check. I thought /hoped that there was a clamp that would hold it.

Yes, only the supply line from fuel pump thru filter and to fuel rail has pressure, 30psi average but can go as high as 45psi.

Return line is open at the gas tank end, so no pressure can build up

Look at the Dorman fuel line repair fittings, leaving the Ford Ends on the lines is best, so IMO a cut and splice to shorten the line would be best, i.e. repair broken fuel line
And do it away from engine and exhaust :)

Thank you for the info. Im gonna try yo find the time today to see if its long enough to coil. If so I think ill find some springs to maybe slide over that are as to help it not kink in the coil area

Just use a can or glass bottle or something similar, i.e. round and sturdy, to coil it around, then zap strap it at two places to hold the coil

It is sold in coils, like this: https://www.amazon.com/100-16-Nylon-Fuel-Line/dp/B07DY9YWTL?tag=959media-20

You just need to prevent it from bending in one spot too much, a kink, which is what the can is for
Extra set of hands would be good to have
