I'm wanting to find out if I could swap my cylinder heads for a 98-11 3.0 heads. Would it be a direct swap? If I remember correctly, I think I stumbled across a thread saying that it was possible.

Car-Parts shows direct cross reference up to 1999. Other years after that may fit, you would have to put them side by side and look for the differences. There may have been a chamber size change after 1999.

The main one to be careful of is Taurus (transverse mounting) versus Ranger (longitudinal mounting)
Coolant flow and hence the water jack ports are different.

The reason I'm looking into this is because I've read that the cylinder heads of those years breathe better and are aluminum. I know the cast iron ones on mine are hard to Crack from overheating. I don't trash my engine so I overheating won't be a problem for me if they're aluminum.

aluminum????

the completely different Duratec 3.0 has DOHC aluminum heads.

the 3.0 Vulcan heads changed valve stem size during their production.
later heads intended for Flex Fuel had different combustion chambers.

the higher power ratings for a couple years was using E85, not plain'ol gas.

So Vulcan 3.0 never had aluminum heads for any year?
