ok so i bought this 95 2wd with 3.0 and the 4r44e the output shaft was bent so i went to the local salvage yard and found a 4r44e out of a 97 that had the looks of being rebuilt at one time or another it was all painted up the converter had a newer date stamped on it so anyway went ahead and changed the tail shaft housing because of the speed sensor difference changed the filter and fluid it looks nice and clean on the inside got iot all put in and it acts like it is slipping in all gears it drives down the road and shifts but it seems to not have the power it should any ideas

You put a used automatic in your truck, and it slips?

Not for nothing but a used automatic trans, regardless of looks, is a great big roll of the dice unless you drove the vehicle it came from first.

Bands need adjusting but more likely the pressure is low.

Good read here on that trans: http://www.askatech.com/AskATechLive/AatFileShare/References/FastTrack/F1030.pdf

And pressures it should have, also OHM readings for solenoids, check TCC

Reverse requires highest pressure, so if it is slow to engage then pressure is low, this is also why people lose reverse first but still have Drive, low pressure.

Common issue was valve body gasket leaking, newer valve body has bonded gasket which seemed to fix that 1 problem.

The EPC and TCC solenoids for 95-96 are different than 97-up. Use different signals from PCM. You can change out the 2 solenoids on the 97 with your old ones and should help.

Just wanted to pop on here and say thanks for the info trans man I swapped the selinoids and it is working good for the most part only issue it's got now is a short delay for drive to engage reverse engages right away it shifts going down the road fine and it doesn't engage hard when it does engage it's smooth just takes I'd say 4 or 5 sec any thoughts

Could be a bad front pump. The first run of the 6R80 had that problem too. There is a check valve in the pump, similar to a fuel pump, that keeps fluid in the passages, and if it fails everything drains back to the pan and all the passages have to re-pressurize. It can take a good 10+ seconds from a cold start, and some of them don't fill until the trans is put in gear.

Glad it seems to help. The delay is an issue that we have been fighting for years. So many things in play its tough to pin point the problem. Mostly a combination of parts the are worn and not playing well together. Make sure fluid level is correct and maybe when you start the engine put the trans in neutral for a few seconds before trying to engage Rev/drive. Good luck!
