94 S10 4.3 TBI/auto

It keeps randomly stalling. Once it starts it smells like it flooded, usually only does it when you stop. The service engine comes on but goes right back off as soon as you give it throttle to take off after it quits. Had a shop pull codes and did not get anything...it runs fine besides this issue.

Its my dads 400 dollar beater but hed like to be able to drive it. Im not familiar with the TBI GMs, anyone got any ideas? Im thinking maybe a crank sensor? Or possibly a fuel pressure regulator?

Try the coolant temp sensor first. Good thing about the tbi is there aren't many sensors running them. My buddy had a random stalling issue on a 93.Would be idling at stop light and it would flood and shut off.He would drive for a week and nothing would happen. He ran it in the yard one day with the breather off after replacing the coolant sensor and it dumped fuel and killed the truck. He thought to himself this thing is acting crazy which lead him to the computer. He wound up replacing the computer and it fixed everything.

I didnt think of the coolant sensor. But thats exactly what its doing. Do these have 2 sensors (one for the gauge and one for the cpu) like the fords or is it all in one? I know the temp gauge doesnt work.

There should be two temperature sensors.
Temp. gauge coolant temp. sender in cyl. head

ECM coolant temp. sender in intake manifold

There should be two temperature sensors. The PCM temperature sensor is a wet hole in the passenger side head between 2 and 4 cylinders. The temperature gauge sender is located in the front of the TBI intake manifold. The two temperature sensors (gauge and PCM) use different senders. Be sure you get the correct sensor in the correct hole. The harness connectors will only fit the appropriate sensor. Both heads have the same sender holes but the one on the driver's side head between 3 and 5 cylinders is not used.

Hey I had them backwards I had to correct myself. But in this case replace the one in the intake manifold. The pcm signal comes from there because it is the closer to the thermostat. Again sry.

Also pull the air cleaner and inspect the injectors (I think there are two).

One of my co-workers has a 2.5 Sonoma with the TBI setup and he was having some really weird issues, similar to what you described, and he ultimately found one of his injectors had self-destructed in a quite fantastic fashion that involved lots of melted stuff.
