Just bought my first ranger and third ford.
It's a 94 XL 4x4 with 4.0. and aftermarket items are 4.10 gears, frt locker, 4" suspension lift, 33x15 wheels/tires and a flowmaster.
Shocks are bad and just wondering how to figure out replacement.

Can you tell what is on it now?

No name just black shocks. Is it possible they kept the stock shocks? The ones on it look factory and bushings are worn completely out on all of them top and bottom.

I would go to Skyjacker website. Find shocks that they have listed for 4" lift for your truck. If you don't want their shocks, write down the extended length and compressed length and use those dimensions to look at shocks on other sites.

It would be astonishing if the factory shocks lasted anywhere near that long. And you'd likely be 'topping out', plus the ride quality would be beyond horrible by now. Kind of doubt it.

Miles are supposed to be 59k original. Fella showed me the carfax and it matches. It only had 32k back in 2002. I'm not sure if it's correct or not.
Yep ride quality is terrible. Feels like a rickety cadillac. All bushings are completely gone. If I shake any of them they just rattle.
I tried to order some regular skyjacker through advance but they were out of stock for the frt ones due to covid I guess. I endedI up ordering the skyjacker double tube black max models.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's really 159,000 miles. Since there's no 100,000 digit on the odometer, you really don't know. If it's only 59,000 and a southern truck, it should be in really excellent condition.

These trucks last a long time if taken care of. So maintain it and enjoy.

Here are some pics,

Looks great!

Looks great!
Thanks! I'm starting to think maybe 59k miles is correct? When driving it home last night I noticed that the engine feels great and has good pep considering lift and tires...Also, I've never had a car with 160k and a driver's seat like this one's condition.
I checked out the pedals and gas is like new. Brake pedal has considerable wear on right bottom. Wear may have mostly come from previous owner who wheeled it here in NC for last 8 yrs.

It does look very new.

I put some bilstein 5100 series on my 94 with a four inch lift, I've had good luck with them so far.

Of course, I would send a picture, but I have the truck over at my workshop.

If you want the best ride quality and handling possible, go 2x James Duff 70/30's all around!!! You will never regret it 🧐

To get the correct shocks for your rig, James Duff LLC will tell you what to measure, then chose the correct shocks for you ..)
