Replacing went rather simple untill putting the belt on. Is their a reason it is to short. Pulling my hair out. Thought maybe the year was wrong and got one for a 95 because it was almost an inch longer. Well back to the belt it calls for but cant streach enought to get it around the tensioner. I have to be missing something but cant figure it out. If I sit in the house on the PC my lady is going to want me to do anything but finish and I am so frustraighted I might give up again. I will keep looking for another post to help.

Most people will get in there and reposition the tensioner with a pry bar after the adjusting bolt and pivot bolt is loosened up a bit. You can snug back down to hold the tensioner in the released position if needed.

94 Ranger Timing belt.

Yes I have put tensioner as far back as possible and tightened back down to stay in place. I havent a clue what to do next? I have a HD but as far as food shopping it blows. Thats what I must do now with the lil lady because my ranger has been against me for about 4 days now.

:icon_rofl: Someone has to of ran into same problem. at least the rain is gone away

still in need of help. Going to take belt back and get from someplace else. Sounds stupid but what else can I do?
:dunno:

:badidea: Well suggestion from a buddy is to take one of the pullys off, put belt on tensioner and try to force pully back on with bolt and a hell of a lot of presure. Wait for first light and see what I can mess up more. Really was simple untill the belt being so short it hasnt gone on.

What's the number on the belt? Perhaps someone on here can tell you if it's the correct belt or not.

loosen the tension, put hte belt on, then tighten the tension with mild pressure from a pry bar and tighten the tensioner bolt. Its so simple a monkey can do it when they dont get ahead of them selves. dont tighten the tensioner back in place until the belt is on. check out the tech library, i believe there is a write up on it. a timing belt shouldnt take you more than 20 minutes.

1994 Ranger timing belt part # should have a 210 in it
48" long, 129 teeth

Put belt on Crank and Cam gears first, then oil pump gear, smooth side of belt rides on tensioner

Duralast belt # 95210 This belt is and was to short to put on.
Then I went to another parts house and got a
Gates belt # T276 This belt is longer & has gone on :yahoo:
Yet, doesnt seem to be in time. Now I have not fully put everything back together (for simple fact its not right as of yet). Cant get it help

Thanks feelin froggy about the monkey thing if I could put the belt on I wood

wood? lol the way i was reading you were adjusting hte tenstioner and then trying to slide the belt over, someone always has to cover the obvious. if you use a longer belt it means more teeth and timing will be off, gotta use the manufacturers recommended belt in this circumstance. I always slid it over the crank and oil pump and tension pulley and put it over the cam last, this way i could adjust one or two teeth if needed. If the recommended belt isnt goin on then the tensioner has not been released fully,,,,,,or its not completely seated on one of the other pulleys, i meant no insult. youd be surprised how many guys here need that type of answer.

Yes the longer belt has 131 teeth, but it is also listed as ranger 2.3l compatible.

To test if valve timing is set correctly you need to rotate the crank TWO full turns.
So assuming crank is at TDC and cam/oil pump gears are set, rotate crank all the way around to TDC ....then rotated it once more all the way around to TDC.
So twice around, now check that the cam and oil pump gears are on their marks.
If they are then all is well.

So far I have got called stupid because a monkey can do it and not any real help here. My Ranger is still down and losing interest. Spent a lot of time looking here signing up reading a lot only to be told a monkey can do it. Well
