There's no way you can tell me that ALL engineers who design intakes for cars design solely for performance and don't take a few shortcuts to either improve engine longevity, ease of maintenance, or improve NVH.
Just follow a few online forums and look at the dyno charts from REAL guys who take their cars to the dyno and do before and after runs. Its been done hundreds of times. 70% or more that I've seen of cars of all different makes have shown some kind of gains. Now I'm not talking no 20hp, thats extremely unusual, but its fairly common to see 5hp or so from a better flowing less restrictive intake.
I'm very surprised you have never seen this, you sound experienced.
