K ive seen people saying you can replace the center one without dropping the diff others say you cant i do not want to take forever doing this so how do i without dropping it? Im guessing each one by the wheel wont be much of a prob but what about that middle one? And what do i need to do it? Thanks

Anyone? Im also trying to figure out the correct size? Everywhere is showing 2 different bearing cup sizes?

I am pretty sure you have to take the differential off the truck. It may be possible to drop the axle pivot on the passenger side and leave the rest attached so you can work on it. But honestly I am pretty sure you need to put the axle in a vise to work on the U joint so it has to come off.

Besides you don't want to be smacking the U joint hard while its axle is in the carrier you may cause damage to the teeth on the ring or pinion.

It can be done on the vehicle, You need a C-clamp, one socket slightly smaller than the u-joint cap, and one socket large enough for a u-joint cap to fit inside it. Basically once you remove the retaining clips you use the C-clamp and sockets to press the u-joint caps out. Press the caps out of the diff side first, after you get these out you can pull the shaft out and change the joint on a bench where you have more room...Installation is reverse of removal.

Thanks for the help guys i dont really want to spend a whole day on this,

I have a tool like this one Air Hammer Bit
It fits in a standard air chisel, it works awesome for knocking the caps out.

I sure hope its the u joints i noticed if i have the hubs in no noise and if i drive straight in 4x4 usually no noise if i barley turn it starts and doesnt stop i have noises :(lol

Also does anyone know what ujoints i need? I noticed most places that sell them there are two different size?

There are two joints that fit, 297x and a 760x. The 297x is an OEM replacement, the 760x is an upgrade. Both are strong, but the 760x is stronger for the weekend wheeler

Go to Harbour Freight and send 40 buck on a ball joint/u-joint/brake pin press and you can have it done in no time at all. It's an easy job and don't take much at all.

Agreed. Put some anti seize on the shaft of the press and use an impact if you need to get more torque to pop the ujoint out.

Press them out? My brother-in-law torches and beats them out, did that to his sploder.

Just go to your local advance auto and rent the balljoint/u-joint press tool. Its a big c-clamp with different sized cups. Its free, just have to pay the deposit till you bring it back.
