93 Ranger 3.0L has a squeal from the Bell Housing. Could it be a Cracked Fly Wheel? Bad Torque Converter? Bad Front Pump?

Could very well be lubrication problems at the camshaft synchronizer. Fairly common problem... search the site for info. Don't put it off... if the synchronizer fails you will lose engine oil pressure.

Noise is from transmission, not engine so I'm a little confused on your reply

The camshaft synchronizer sits directly in front of the bell housing top rear of engine. They are known to produce a squeal when they suffer lack of lubrication.

By the sounds of your question... you don't know exactly what is causing the noise. I was simply suggesting it may not be transmission related at all.

Thank you for your input. I understand what you're saying now. This engine has a distributor though. I thought the can sensor and synchronizer took place of the distributor?

I'm sorry man... you're absolutely correct. I saw 3.0L and neglected to notice the model year.

So... a squeal in the transmission is gonna just require it come out and be inspected. I'm thinking a cracked Flexplate won't cause it to squeal but after removing the transmission it could be fully inspected. I also think if it's squealing... there is most likely trash all through the box.

All good. Just making sure I was relaying what was going on correctly. Sometimes my brain works faster than my fingers😂😂. Pulling the transmission is most likely my next option. I put the transmission in for the guy a few months back and had absolutely no issues. Idk what's happening

A used transmission... or reman?

At least it should come apart easier this time.

Same one that was in the truck. Some moron tried pulling it to replace the pump seal and couldn't finish it. He bought the truck and I did the job. Yessir it should be easier this time. Lol

I would test the waters on just replacing it... opposed to hoping to make a quick cheap repair.

I would think it was probably run low enough on fluid to cause the damage you're now facing. As always... dropping the pan usually tells the story.

So turn of events. I was able to get it on a lift and put a stethoscope on it. Not coming from Bell Housing. Coming from mid to rear of Engine oil pan.

Seems like you've narrowed down the location of the offending noise, but just to add.. in my experience a cracked flexplate makes more of a rattle.. like a loose heatshield.

I'm not sure about the lack of lube on a 3.0L distributer. It might be the same as the cam synchronizer issue.

@pjtoledo what say you on this subject?

Just put a new distributor in it. Thinking bad rod bearing or oil pump bearing. Sound plausible?

This is the darndest thing I've ever seen. If I pull the oil dipstick just a little while running, noise goes away
