i need to find out what the stuff is which ges on back of igntion control module.this is my first post and i would totally appreciate any help.

Heat sink compound.

It's the same stuff used on computer heat sinks on processors

If you replace the module with new, it should come with heat sink compound. If you R&R your old one, you can get the compound at auto parts stores or computer stores.
You only need a 'pea sized' dab of compound to spread thinly across the contact area. It NEEDS to be thin to allow heat transfer, but needs to be evenly spread to make good contact. FWIW.

Hey, thanks guys ,I just got some from radio shack and gonna install
Now. Thx again

When you go to 'stab' it up into the contacts in the bowl of the distributor, make sure you have something supporting the pickup module so it does not get 'deformed' out of place. The spades on the module push into the pickup, and the pickup can start to 'fall apart' with age, and the female connectors smush out of the way. If you support the pickup, and feel the spades connecting, you can have a bit of assurance things are 'working', BUT if you try to force the spades into place, you can destroy the pickup. They(the pickups) CAN be replace, but you have to disassemble the distributor, pulling the gear, etc, to remove the pickup from its perch. PITA.

Tom, he's talking about the DIS module on the side of the intake manifold, no distributor on a '93

Okeydoke, I don't have the Year==Ignition Style formula embedded, so the commentary is not exact for model year. Doubt I ever will, as I don't own one with EDIS nor a remote TFI.
I do wonder what it got Ford to go through all those engineering & manufacturing & install & test procedures going from one to the next.

I hear ya, I only know because my truck is the first year (technically a '90 but was built in '89) of the DIS and I've had it for almost 17 years now...

I'd have to find it, but there is a document out there detailing all of Ford's ignition systems.

Main reasons for changes are more efficient timing and fuel burn (emissions) and maintainence (less moving parts with solid state electronics).
