Ok, i bought a 92 ranger and the key for the ignition was lost out of town and now i need to get the truck home and cant do anything with it i cant get a locksmith is there anyway i can unlock the ignition? and run it?

You are going to need the services of a locksmith. You can't even change out the ignition switch without the key. Call your insurance company, they'll be able to get some help for you.

You need a locksmith, Bro!! Why don't you have a spare, Bro? They are cheap to purchase. You should always keep a spare in your wallet as I do. I will never get locked out of my truck again when I did it only once the first 3 weeks I owned the truck. Since mine has the chip in it I went ahead and got a regular key made up and it fits perfect in my wallet. It won't start my truck, but if I leave the keys in it I can open the doors with the spare. Think about this when you get the truck back.

If I had to guess from his post he has only recently purchased the vehicle.

I can tell you how to get it started, but the problem is it won't unlock the steering column. You won't be able to steer.

funny story behind the truck its a pretty much mint 92 ranger 2wd extended cab 4.0 5 speed. been sitting for 6 years it has true duals. the old guy who ownd it said he is sick of having the truck sitting in his yard so he told me if i can get it out of there its mine for free. the keys are aperently long lost so i need a way to start it to move it. someone told me if i give my vin to ford they will make me a key, true?

not on a truck that old.

i dont know if this will work with a ford, but when i got locked out of the house and had to get to my GF's work to get keys i had on an old 93 Buick and i took a pair of channels to the ignition cylinder's ears and broke it to start without a key...

2002 and newer.

You can always drill out the lock and replace it later.

Or break the lock with large channel locks. That can work if you have the ears to grab.

Ahh...

Why go through all the trouble to break the ignition?

Do you or anyone you know have AAA? I bought a truck once like that, got the title transferred and all (but it didn't have a plate or valid inspection or any of that) and called AAA (I have the plus membership), they sent a locksmith out right away, guy didn't even ask for any paperwork or anything, just asked if I lost the key and went to work making a new one right out of the back of his car. Took about a half hour, no charge.

When my neighbor lost his keys we took out the lock from the passenger door and went to the local locksmith. He made two keys from the number printed on the lock, cost $20, time fifteen minutes.

but didn't the rangers from that vintage have seperate ignition/door keys? or was that a gen1 thing?

Get a tow truck to puck it up and drop it off at an autoshop. They will fix if for you. If you got it for free as you say you did, than spend the money on it.

You should be able to pull the steering wheel and pull the clock spring plate to get to the button to release the cylinder with out the key........ I had to do this to my 91 explorer when my daughter (2 at the time) threw away my keys...... I don't quite recall how I did this.

The least damaging way is to call a locksmith but be prepared to show ownership.
