92 manual. how big is metal plate above the transmission

I'm trying to find a transmission leak and want to remove the access plate from inside the cab. I've already unbolted everything but the plate won't come out without cutting some carpet. I just want to know how much carpet I need to cut before I go screw up my interior..

It's of a fairly decent size. Below is a pic of mine that is kind of hard to see. It's cover in sound insulation and is silver. It's much easier to pull the two kick panels and roll the carpet back. Don't cut it.

I ran into the same problem. I cut about 2" towards the rear and outwards slightly. I don't like how it turned out and hope someone else has a better solution. Of course if I wasn't lazy I would have removed the seats and plastics that were holding down the carpet.
