92 4x4 wiring nightmare

Need Help! Going wacko trying to figure this out.
Just got a "worked on" 92 Ranger and trying to return all wiring to "normal".
Previous owner has a power wire patched in to the 4X4 system and I want to find the actual problem and fix it.
Keep in mind that with the EXCELLENT tech writeup here on the 4X4 diagnostic troubleshooting helped me get LOW range back and the system now works well, its just rigged up.(other problem was was the red wire in the white connector on the 4X4 computer not seated all the way and LOW wouldnt engage and lights didnt come on -works good now!)

Anyways, 1 power wire is cut under the dash/carpet by the tranny hump,
its a white multiwire connector and the cut wire is black with a white stripe. It was cut completely and a positive power wire run to the connector side.
When I backtrace it thru the firewall to see where it goes, it turns into a brown wire and then I found like 3-4 brown wires in the harness and it becomes a real pain in the ass to trace continuity without cutting wires. I cut a wrong one already and am getting pissed because I can follow a schematic but it doesnt really explain where the wires ARE or where they end up.

When I disconnect the spliced-in wire it has 12vdc and disables the 4x4 switch on the dash so I am ASSUMING it is the main power lead for the 4x4 switch......

If someone could provide me clear guidance on this I would sure appreciate it.
I am going to go get some coffee and think this over in the meantime.
PS you wouldnt believe how my lightswitch is wired up ......sigh.............
Thanks for a great and informative site.
