Will a 1991 Aerostar engine swap over to a 1994 ranger?
Both are 3.0L v6's.
Is there some sort of site showing what can go into what?
I'm hoping for no to very inexpensive modifications :)
Thanks,
J

Edit: this is the first time I've done an engine swap. Any other advice is much appreciated!
Both vehicles are RWD manual

Yes it can.

You will need to change upper intake and maybe lower intake manifold, for wiring harness matchup.
Also oil pan and oil pump pickup tube, most likely, because of clearance issues

No, there is no site that covers all possible swap combinations.

91 Aerostar and 94 Ranger 3.0l are the same engines, block and heads, the bolt on stuff is specific to model of vehicle and that varies over the years and options

Good read here on changes to the 3.0l over the years: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/3_0-build.shtml

If Ranger is an automatic then you need to be very careful when installing the transmission to the engine.
The torque converter must be installed correctly or trans will be wrecked.

When removing an engine people often fail to account for the weight of the engine sitting on the vehicle suspension.
As they lift the engine out the vehicle suspension just keeps going higher and higher, lol.
So they can't lift engine over and out of engine bay with suspension fully extended.
You can remove front wheels at this time and lower the front down.
You can chain front end suspension so it can't extend all the way, be careful with that.
Or just make sure engine lift has enough travel

So that would mean buying a top end gasket kid/head gasket kit and ripping down the engine regardless?
I was mistaken, the ranger is manual, the aerostar is automatic is this ok?

Thanks for the info! I might try to find another ranger rather than use an aerostar...

donjek, Heads don't have to come off, just swap intake, oil pan, and anything that's different from other (in vehicle now) engine.
