90 ranger trans stuck in gear

I have a 90 ranger 2.3 5speed I just got it last week have drove it everyday and today went over to my friends this morning parked it left it all day came home got in it to start it and when it's in neutral it pulls it is stuck in 4th u can move the shifter in other gears and when u ease off the Clutch it dies so it's going into other gears but is still stuck in 4th any suggestions! Thanks

It REALLY helps if you use punctuation!
From what I can gather you are stuck in fourth. You can move the shifter but that doesn't change what gear it's in. Is that correct?

you have a broken shift fork. i bet if u put it in 3rd gear it is still in 4th. but when u try other gears it is actually 2 gears at once. yep, ive had this problem before. hope this helps

I'm somewhat perturbed that you feel that way about me trying to understand what you wrote.
There are a couple of possibilities that I know of that may be the cause of your problem.
But I'm a hunt and peck writer and it takes a lot of effort on my part writing out all the possibilities. I'd hope you would put in the same effort to narrow down those possibilities.

Sounds like the shifter tip is broke and not engaging the shift gates.

Ok so what I gather is you have a 1990 ford ranger with the 2.3L 4 cylinder 5 speed manual transmission. You parked it at a friends house went about your daily business, came back to it and now its stuck in 4th gear. You can put the shift lever into any other gear and its still stuck in 4th at the same time.

Probably a broken shift fork from what I can remember on a car I had that did that.

Huey, actually, you DO need a grammar lesson, punctuation is some what like using the right letters in a word.
