Can you put a 8.8 flange from an explorer onto a 9"?

The 9" i have is for a 1350 ujoint and of course my driveshaft is a 1310 like most rbvs. I don't wanna spring the $$ for a 1310 9" yoke but i read somewhere the 8.8 flanged yoke works on the 9"

Remember that when you do it, you will need to be very careful about the crush sleeve in the pinion support. I have a few 9" yokes laying around if you can't find any that are 1310. Count the splines on the 8.8 flange and I will take some measurements from a 9" pinion.

Why not just use a 1310 to 1350 adapter u-joint?

They are very expensive. It would almost be cheaper to just buy a used yoke. Let me know if you need a yoke cause more than likely I have one.

Cause if i am in BFE and need a ujoint i'm sure i could get a stock one for an RBV, but to find a Conversion joint in BFE might be a little harder.

Gonna play around with a 9" i have at work and a 8.8 flange and see what happens. I found some on ebay for $25

First I was wondering what is called an expensive u-joint? $28 at Summit, $38 at NAPA and AutoZone. If you're worried about not finding one in the boonies, carry a spare. You break a joint, it's not like you're going to be up and running in 5 mins. My '66' Ranchero runs a conversion joint (1310/1330) as stock, they had it right on the shelf. Check around, you might be surprised.

^+1! Thats what I'm going to be running to connect my D60 in the rear, until I swap in my diesel and then I'll have custom shafts made. I think the conversion joint I got was around $20-$30, right around what Dave was saying, so yeah, why not just buy 2?

I was going to say the same thing as Mac and 95XL...they're not really all that bad. I know the 1310s are a lot cheaper, though.

Have you considered having one end of your driveshaft redone so that you can run a regular 1350 on the diff end? Lots stronger and easier to find.

what's the point of only running one 1350? you will have a weaker 1310 anyways. Just run all 1310's. I can get two 1310's for 28$, so yes, 28$ for ONE is expensive. Yes, spicer joints.

Never said they were expensive....just figured they were harder to find then a simple 1310 joint. I have a ton of 1310 ujoints and driveshafts from parted out RBV's along with a bunch of 8.8 yoke/flanges......just figure why not use what i have vs spending money on things i don't necessary need.

But i'll look into the napa number.....I buy all my napa parts at cost through my shop.

edit...cost me $23

I just went and pulled the yoke off my 8.8 from my explorer and i have an old 9" sitting out back with the yoke already off. The 8.8 pinion must be quite a bit larger. The 8.8 yoke is extremely sloppy on the 9". And for shits and giggles a 7.5 yoke is to small to fit the 9" as well. Guess i'll just buy the conversion joint.

Well that good news and a cheap solution. You may really want to upgrade at least the rear DS joints in the future if you're worried about a failure. I'm pretty sure the later 4.0's run the 1330 joints. I did drop the front shaft on my old F-100 one time and scared the hell out of me, left a 1" dent right under the loud pedal.
I know it was not you that thought they were expensive. You in the Houghton area I take it.
