I got an 89 ranger xlt 2.9 v6 pretty much a donor truck can i swap everything out into a 2000 ranger xlt 3.0 v6? Like it is possible i dont care about how much work it is.

Thanks!

as long as you are willing to change virtually everything then yes, but i don't know why you would put that much effort into installing a 2.9 into anything that did't already have one.

Well anything is possible especially when work, time, and money is not an option. Or are you asking if its a direct swap?

Might be easier to put the '96 body on the '89 frame if the '96 has a title.

You may run into emissions legality issues with a '96 running at an '89's emission standards.

The 89 only has 68000 the 2000 has 257

then in that case it's not like it was mentioned it would be pretty involved. unless it has sentimental value or you lost some kind of bet your better off doing a more conventional swap. what's wrong with the engine in the newer model?

It has 257000 on it while the 89 only has 68000

The holes will probably be there so it will bolt in depending on what transmissions they have... however it will be far from plug and play.

It may drop into the chassis and bolt down, it will not match the wiring, the fuel system, the transmission, or any of that.

If your whole premise is that you want to replace a high mileage engine with a different engine that you already have and are hoping it's plug and play, go take some Ambien and keep dreaming. Even if you were taking a 92 3.0 (first year for the Ranger 3.0) and trying to drop it into your 2000 it would not be plug and play because of changes made over the years.

The 2.9 and the 3.0, despite being close in displacement are two completely different engines. About the only thing they actually have in common is the name Ford stamped somewhere on them. Better to sell your 2.9 on Craigslist and use the money to buy a lower-mile 3.0.

Or better yet, buy a different vehicle with anything but a 3.0.

Well Mileage isn't always a good indicator of engine condition. Usually is but there are other factors, besides for the amount of work, time, and money involved you might as well put in another 4.0 or a V8.

Forgive adsm he means well lol.:D

My 89 is in mint condition and I rebuilt the thing I can't get a title well I can it'll just cost me a load of money and selling it would be worthless so I'm attempting to buy a POS ranger to swap everything out with. I know you mean well but all I needed to know was if I could swap it I don't need money I do all the work and I don't mind getting my hands dirty I like working for the things I have

I know he does aha but I have a limited amount of money and Craigslist is my only option and 4.0 or V8 are allot more like I said I practically rebuilt my 89 just don't have the time nor money to get the title. I don't mind getting my hands a little dirty to get my truck up and running.

If that's the case your best doing a same gen swap that way it's less hassle and money and you get some spare parts as a bonus.

That's what I've been thinking just looking for something older with the same make and model so I don't kill myself. Thanks!
