Hello, i have a '89 ranger regular cab. Bucket seats with the center console, really nice setup that compliments the whole truck's theme... BUT... its a pain in the ass for someone who loves breathtaking bass lol. You guys should know what im talking about, because there is so little room back there... and i would like to keep speakers in the rear to keep the sound nice and rounded. But the center console... oh that damn center console... lol i am thinking i wont be able to fit a sub in the center because of it right?

What are my options to keep the 6x9 rears, and put a sub that really pounds in? Has anyone done a system with a simular setup? Any ideas? Could i maybe do some kind of setup where i have a sub(s) behind the seats, and some really small speakers on top, around them? lol Im really not quite sure what to do, but am determined to find a way.

Now comes to the sub selections... I am looking to get the best bass i can fit in such a small cab. Something that hopefully can compete with the better regular subs such as alpine type Rs or something simular. But i know this is a hard thing to come by and will cost alot more. So what are the best options i have for a hard hitting, low frequency reaching system? Please post links to the subs if you can.

Thanks alot. :)

i have an 88 that i run 2 10 inch mtx road thunders in behind the seat. they are in truck boxes. it doesn't sound bad in the standard cab. but the rear factory speakers were removed when i got it.

JL makes some shallow mounts that hit crazy hard and handle tons of power but there insanely expensive as well. i think they are 13tw5 or something? heard one in a f-150 reg cab sounded great

Well, what can i do to fit subs in the back, and somehow keep rear speakers? Does anyone know of someone that has done this and how?

And thanks for the ideas. I looked into jl quite a bit and they have great subs, b ut yes they are very expensive lol.

I have an 88 standard cab and had a couple setups in it before i found the best "comfort to noise" ratio. I built a thin box as wide and tall as i could that is only about an inch deep at the top and maybe 4 inches deep at the bottom. This box came out to maybe .5 cubic feet, but with it stuffed and the sub inverted it sounds awesome. I have a 10 inch Kicker solo-classic in there with the magnet comeing out from between the seats and have an amp on either side of it. My 4 speakers are in the doors and dash with component tweeters on the pillars and it sounds really good. With the sub inverted in a box this size you can choose whatever woofer you want pretty much and still have your seats almost as far back as they can go. Check out Amazon.com or E-bay for good deals on subs and amps - just be sure its new in box unless your budget does'nt permit it. :icon_thumby:

Im running a P3 rockford fosgate shallow mount that rattles the house with a cheap 400 watt walmart amp..

Thanks. I am picking up a 12" kicker CVR, alpine amp, with shallow box and wires for 300 on saturday. Sub and amp are matching 400 rms, 800 peak. I also found some really cheap 6x9s in boxs for 30 bucks... BUT... they are however sony xplodes... so they are temp to go untill i can get the new polk speakers all around. I hate xplode... lol

But i have ran into a problem in my back where there is a copletely pointless peice of metal that is right in the center behind the seats. Cannot find ANY reason for it being there other than to stop me from putting the sub in the middle. So i will be trying to use a sawsil to cut it out (friend claims it should work lol).

So basically what i am planning to do is have the sub in the center back there with the sub facing out between the seats. 6x9s in boxes on either side of. I will be trying to mount the amp under the seat (i trust i shouldnt have any problems). I have to take out the center consol because it goes into the back too far. Then when income/expenses permit, i will be upgrading the speakers all around to polk audios. Components in the front, so i will need to find a way to cut into the dash or something for the tweets. Then going to get another alpine amp to run speakers off of.

I also have a nice kenwood deck i found for very cheap that is like top of the line. I will try to run the usb cord under the carpet and have my ipod hidden under the seat as it is now (currently just wirte coming out bottom of the dash down on the floor). Anyone have any ideas to fill the center consol's place? Maybe something to hold my ipod? Lol i havent done any fabbing before.

End product: Greatness :P
