89 ranger SAS build

No prob. Glad to help

Hopefully I will get some flex shots this weekend, as long as nothing else breaks. Everytime I planning on going to my brothers to use his forklift something goes to hell.

Sweet build. Truck looks great!

one thing i suggest for the 30. truss it. i used a hi pinion 30 out of a yj. im running 4.10's and a built 2.3 i havent finished mine yet but i plan on trussing my 30. ive heard the houseings flex and all.

heres one TNT customs does. ill have to look for one for myself or make my own

http://tntcustoms.com/dana30nondisconnect.aspx

i highly suggest trussing it.

Yes the housing flexes. I can see it when I jack it up... might look into something like that. I need to finish it first. Still is only 2wd.

I changed the rear lift blocks a couple days ago and took a few pictures of what little flexing I could get with a jack and stand.

I replaced the steering stabilizer today that I got when I was at 4Wheel Parts store in Indy. Hope it works better than the stock one I've been using.

Thats another thing on my to-do list, get a new steering stabilizer shock, mine has a huge dent in it. Im still saving up for the long arms you have, dont want to buy a set that cant adjust as much, I dont want to sell myself short. Hoping the humidity dies off so I can get the bolts out of my chevy leaves.

Did you put new fog lights on or was I not paying attention again?

Yeah I added another set of Hella's that I had laying around the garage for a few months.

The new steering stabilizer works much better. Should of changed that during the swap.

Yes the heat here is killing me too. I keep putting off changing the transfer case because of it. I should do it at night and piss off all the neighbors. :icon_idea:

You keep naming off stuff on my todo list :P

Got one of the bushings out of my rear chevy leaves due to the bolt being seized in the metal fitting in the bushing, only $20 for a new one. Only one more to take out.

Ive been wanting to say this but havent, but how well do you think your D30 will hold up to your 35s, Im told 33 are pushing limits?

I have some extra leaf spring bushings if you want them? I ordered 3 extra by my mistake. I needed three bushings and didn't realize that two came in a box. Ordered 6 so....

The35's should be ok on the D30. Not planning on any locker just the open diff. The rear will get a locker of some sort in the future.

Progress? Trail reports? Anything break?

Update

Well I did have the clutch and transmission input shaft bearing go out a week ago. Been working alot of overtime saving money to get the original m50 that I pulled out when I converted it to 4wd, installed this week.

I haven't gotten the front driveshaft in yet was waiting to put the m50 back in because the tk5 that I am using is in bad shape. Was that way when I put it in.

I have put about 3,000 miles on it since the swap and the only thing that I had a problem with is there is a small amount of bump steer. I installed a new steering stabilizer and it helped some. The two piece driveshaft is a POS :annoyed:.. I have broken the carrier bearing strap twice and have had some small vibration since. I need a new one piece in the future.

The front springs have settled some, sits about an inch lower so my steering/alignment is off some.

My rear axle is back to far now after the Chevy leaf swap

I might not of put the front shackle mounts in the right spot but that can be fixed with new spring perches :icon_welder:

This whole week I am off work for vacation/holiday shut down and plan on changing the transmissions and get the front driveshaft shortened and I was going to move the front axle forward about 3/4 to an inch. I noticed yesterday that the axle is not exactly where it should be. It should be easy with the IronMan arms....

I have been apprehensive to take it through any serious offroading being only 2wd.
Updates to come

I got the front drishaft done today had to shorten it by 3 inches. And took it for a drive to a local spot I been eyeing to check out.

Here is the driveshaft. Forgot to take a pic of it till after I took it for a drive.

Here is a water hole I went through. Tire was about 3/4 in the mud.

My 11 year old son took the pics and a small video.

the driveshaft came from a 91 ranger stx

Glad to see that it is now 4wd.

One thing that is still fuzzy to me is the brakes lines and how they are ran. I guess either Im thinking about it all wrong or I havent been puting as much thought into it as I should or Im over thinking them. Do you remember what vehicle the short rubber brake line that you used (where the long arms connect to the frame, picture number 2) are from?

Did you have to end up using a drop pitman arm or use the factory one, from the looks of the pictures, its not factory?

At the moment Im trying to get my Duraspark swap done before I do my SAS.
