88 Ranger Rear Axle / Drum Wet, fluid on ground

It might be better to just see if you can get an adapter to fill the gap since that seems to be what the previous owner did. Or replace the short brake line with one of proper length.

Won't hurt a thing to bend your metal line that much & screw directly into new wheel cylinder.

Thanks everyone for your input and help on this. I was able to muscle off the old fitting / adapter from the original wheel cylinder and screw it into the new one. For whatever reason, the hard lines are also a dif thread size than oem, hence the adapter. Crazy people. But all is well and dry now. many thanks!!

Kegworth,

Remove the fitting from your old brake cylinder and install it in the new unit.

I just went through the drums on my Ranger and BII; I wish that I had that fitting in my brake cylinders. If I had that fitting, it would be so, so much easier to get a wrench in. My backing plates are in the way both forward and rear sides; it wi D's up putting my wrench on a slight angle, reducing my leverage and purchase, which is causing extra ware on the lands of the fittings ..(

I believe that the person responsible for installing those "extra fittings" and adjusting the line fittings was a genius.
