Okay so I have been working on this build for a while and can't find any info online about a few things.
The 88 ranger is 2wd ttb extended cab 2.9l v6
The 96 explorer is 4wd ifs 4.0l v6.

I am building the 88 ranger. The 96 explorer is a donor rig.

What I have pulled so far on the 96 explorer.
•Wiring harness(motor and dash)
•Motor(4.0L)
•Dashboard including steering column.
•8.8 rearend
•transfer case and rear drive line.

Okay so now to my questions.
1. Will the dash fit in the 88 ranger? If so is there a write up for it.
2. Will the 96 steering column bolt up with the 88 steering gear box?
3. Will the transfercase bolt to the transmission that is in the ranger? If so will the rear driveline be the right length from rhe tcase to the 8.8 rearend?
4. Will I need to do anything about motor mounts in the ranger for the 4.0?

If any of my questions already have write ups for them can you please post them or links. Thank you all for looking at this post and also a huge thanks for people who can help answer my questions.

I am making a build photo album so if this post gets alot of attention and people wanna see the work being done I am willing to post it all.

Most if not all the question can be answered here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index-engine-fuel.shtml

Under Swaps

Similar plus more info here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index-conversions.shtml

1988 will have an EEC-IV computer(60 pin,OBD 1), 1996 will have an EEC-V computer(104 pin, OBD 2)

Ford added computer assist to automatics with the A4LD trans in 1985, from that time on Ford computers came in "for Automatic" and "for Manual" versions.
If you use a manual trans then you need a "for manual" computer, if you use an automatic then you need a "for auto" computer.
If you use an automatic computer in a manual the check engine light will be on all the time, preventing you from getting any actual warnings of problems.
If you use a manual computer in an automatic(1985 or newer), then trans won't shift smoothly or lock up torque converter
