Hey all, I have a cracked drivers side mirror I'd like to replace the glass in. I have a spare PS mirror with a dented housing that I removed a few years ago. What I'd like to know is if anyone knows how to remove the glass without breaking it. I'm not sure how they are attached and force hasn't been able to separate them... Its the swing away chrome style mirror that came on the early models. TIA!

The passenger side mirror probably will not fit on the drivers side. I'm not sure what mirrors you are talking about but unless they are the type that are identical in shape (rectangle or square) it will not fit. Also you will have the annoying "objects will look closer than they appear" warning.

Go to PepBoys or Autozone and they can order or may have a replacement glass for you. They usually cost under $10.00 or those years.

The mirrors are interchangeable. I would not mess around with swapping the glass, I would just put the other one on and live with the dented housing.

The mirror glass is glued on and I have not found anything yet that reliably holds the glass on. My best results were with gorilla glue, and even that didn't hold more than a few weeks. Also, it is going to be extremely difficult to get the old one off without breaking it.

You can also getget a replacement glass that comes with adhesive pad/strips. Or try some local junkyards for inexpensive replacement side mirror.

urethane will hold it
go to a glass shop and have them do it. local glass shop did mine for $10
and they used urethane to glue it.

I can speak from personal experience that R/C car servo tape can be used to attach random rear view mirror glass to a broken/missing/bashed up for many years. 3 if not 5 years of use and plenty of "break-aways" later it seems fine.

But I also did that to remind me not to do that trail again.
