hello will the drivers side view mirror come apart from the outside to replace the mirror glass only? I am wondering if the rim pops off and if I can replace the broken mirror. I have a 2000 ford ranger without power to the mirrors. I never messed with a mirror before and I am not sure if I should force the rim off the plastic housing or not and to pry off the broken mirror..thanks for any information.

Just go to a glass shop and have them cut and install it for you

save yourself the trouble and aggravation and get the entire mirror assembly. if you have the flag style mirrors it is only a couple of screws. if you have the deluxe mirrors, it is a little bit deeper involved, but not much especially if you don't have power mirrors.

Trust me... whatever type of mirror you have, whatever dollar amount you are saving by getting glass only, it is not. worth. it.

ok i do trust your advice, I can handle replacing the entire unit no problem. Something about taking that mirror off just seems a bit overly awkward and you just confirmed that. If anything just to buy me some time I can glue a temporary small mirror on the broken one until I have the time to take the door panel apart. thanks.

I just did a glass only replacement for the passenger side mirror. Picked the broken glass off the backing, and glued in the new one. Took about 15min.
