88 manual trans poblems

Ok I have an odd problem with the 88 I just bought. When you put it in gear it works great no problems and was said to have a new clutch but the shifter is outta wack. You can pull the shifter to the driver side past 1 and 2 gear and it drops into slots that shouldnt be there and does the same thing to the passenger side past 5 and reverse...... any ideas? Its driveable providing you dont drop it into one of those slots (grinds reall bad and gets stuck) hoping this is just a simple problem with the shifter but if anyone has an idea let me know.

yea there is a bushing of sorts on the shifter itself that can cause ur sloppy shifter problem. theres an article on the site about it ive read before, that would prolly fix that. as for ur "extra gears" that may also be do to the shifter cause if its movin around it will be throwin it in the wrong spot, but iduno fer sure lol

The shifter is firm in gear and barley wobbles thats whats throwin me off.
