Ever since I did the V-8 swap on my 88 Ranger I have no power steering. My thread is below. I'm using the PS from 97 Exploder. It works fine with wheels off the ground, can turn with one finger. Put it down and you have to be a bodybuilder to turn it. I changed the pump already, thinking the JY unit was bad but no difference. I used the stock return line and plumbed the pressure side with Russel fittings and stainless line. I used the 16mm PS/6AN fitting at the pump, below, and inverted fitting in the box like normal. I really need some help as I'm at my wits end...

Could the box need a rebuild, it worked before so idk...

It doesn't seem to be circulating that much fluid when you look into the res.

Is there a check valve in the box that mb bad since it was open for a while when I was doing the swap? Other people have said they had no problems but this is the only one I've had. Atm it's undriveable and I need my truck...

Again any help would be appreciated guys.

This is the top of the pump.

This is the fitting at the pump 16mm/6AN. i know the O-rings are trash but at this moment that's the least of my problems. Could the line be too small?

Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you

Ok, I pulled the box out and started to disassemble it. I turned the input shaft before I started and it wouldn't hardly turn and if it did turn it just recoiled back. I took it apart and cleaned everything off and reassembled it and you can turn the shaft by hand now. So I don't know if I should rebuild or just put it in and see what it does? Any suggestions?
Thank you

I would think it would depend on the amount of damage, crud and/or metal shavings you found.I dont know anything about power steering but is it possible to put hoses on backward? Is the steering binding around the tie rods or ball joints?

Lines are different sizes on the box so you'd have to work hard to screw that up. The power steering system is pretty basic in design. You already replaced the pump, and the lines, process of elimination says its the box. Its most likely coincidental the box fails at the time of the swap. Boxes can be open for an undisclosed amount of time and still operate fine. Since you did a partial cleaning, hook it up and try it. If it doesn't work, pull it for a rebuild. While its out drill and tap the box for ram assist. You may not use it now, or ever, but it'll be there if you ever do...
