Hi! I have a 98 4 cyl ranger, and I am about to buy a 1999 5.0 awd explorer for $400. The motor has just been rebuilt, trans is shot. The complete explorer is there, no parts have been removed.

Little information on my ranger.

1998 4 cyl 5 speed, 2wd, reg cab, short bed. 87k original miles.

Explorer:
1999 5.0 AWD. 235k on body, 60k on ford rebuilt motor.

I have a few questions about the swap, that maybe somebody can explain.

I've been doing alot of reading and looking into it.

Rear End:

I can use the explorer rear end correct? It should have a locker in it? Any fabbing for mounting or for brake lines to hook up? I would like to use the explorer because of the VSS signal for the speedo would be perfect to use right?

PATS:
If I plan on removing the PATS(viper alarm with starter kill, plus i will have a few kill switches for various things), do i really need to install the explorer steering column?

Trans: What are the years of the F150 that I can use the 2wd 5 speed transmission from? And will I use the ranger trans cross member, or the f150?

Wiring:
Since my ranger is a 4 cyl, do I still need to follow the wiring at http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/5_0_swap_in_newer_ranger.html ?

Oil filter: what ones work? Any preferences?

Tuner: What a good tuner to use for tuning the computer? Is there any out there that can disable the PATS and remove the auto-tune?

Lowering kit:

I was to drp the truck just a bit, making the rear sit a few inches higher then the front. I need to change control arms, so any good full kits for this that will work with the explorer rear end?

Tires: Whats the widest tires I can go in the rear without tubbing? I want a 10 inch in rear.

I know im missing stuff, and will ask as a remember them. thanks!

Did you accomplish the swap? I'm interested in the outcome.
