Background:

This truck sat a decently long time (since 2016) and I received the vehicle for the price of removing it from an elderly woman's front yard, it having belonged to her deceased husband, and for my word not to just part it out or scrap it. When I put a new battery in it, it fired right up and the engine ran smoothly, but the transmission (A4LD) was not shifting properly. After researching the problem, I determined that the issue was the vacuum modulator, which I painstakingly replaced. (Painstakingly because it was seized in there and I had to sawzall the cat off to remove it due to fasteners being rusted beyond recognition.) I had also noticed that the driver's side valve cover gasket had a significant leak, so I replaced that as well. However after doing both of those things, and starting the truck, it idled normally for about 10 seconds, and it then started jerking violently and shortly after it shut itself off. Since that point, every time I try to start the truck, the starter turns it over, the engine fires and sputters, but it will not actually run on its own.

I feel like I have a decent idea of where to start, as far as diagnostics. Test spark at each of the plugs, test fuel pressure, check timing, etc... But I was wondering if anything that I did gives anyone a hunch as to what went wrong. Does anyone have any gut feeling? Thanks for your time.
