87 Ranger Dually

That thing is just screaming for a Cummins 4BT.

I'd say you could get a solid 3k+ out of it, you just have to market it to the right crowd. That is in way too good of condition to give away for 1k.

Just keep it in that condition for 10-20 more years and sell it as an older classic for some more cash.

I dont know where all of the other figures are coming from but for a ranger that clean around here you would be looking at 2k let alone a custom dually like that! I say put it up on here or craigslist or even ebay for no less thank 3k and see what bites! Someone will want to pay good money for a classic ranger in that good of condition especially with the customization of it!

If he has any info as to who built it that will help with some value. As I stated in one of my post there should be a build sheet for it and a plaque somewhere on it with the builders name. I have only seen a few duallys that were not done by owners and they really looked great, but all the ones I saw at car and truck expos in California and Florida had a plaque near the glovebox area that said the number of the vehical and the builder. I have seen several duallys that were done by owners and the setup was really nice. The fender bulges and the trim really was nicely made and fit real nice. I almost wanted to do that to one of my early 4x4 Rangers...but I thought about the gas milage and the extra width going off road and decided not to do it.
He needs to find out where his dad bought it and see if he has the paperwork for it. If he has the doucumentation as to where it was put together he should put it on Ebay and see what he can get for it. Hold the reserve at $3k and hope for the best. If he has no documentation he might not get much for it. He could also go to a Ford dealership and show them the truck to see if they know anything about it.

You better check the other thread, he just listed it on ebay.

wow thats a true dually

dang it now I really want to buy, link us the ebay info when you go to sell

That is NOT a real dually. That is a Ranger semi-float 2,750# capacity axle. It's for show, not work.

There was a time when lots of custom shops were buying basic trucks and vans and making conversions. That truck is not a Ford product. Also, the Ranger chassis cabs were not duallies. They were 8.8" axles. If a company bought the basic trucks and made them into duallies with kits, that's another thing. RV companies did that with Toyota chassis cabs when they started making those little RVs. Toyota eventually started selling the chassis cabs with real dually axles in the rear, and even warrantied the trucks that had been misused with the wheel adapters just to preserve the Toyota name. You can tell those Rvs from the rest because they have the Budd wheels in the rear and the standard ones in the front.

A full-float axle has huge bearings and the weight is carried by the axle housing, not by the little axle shaft. Put all the tires you want on a 7.5 or 8.8 axle and you still have a 2,750# axle--but one that is imperiled by the offset outer wheel. A real truck axle is easy to identify. You can remove the drive axle without removing the wheel--there are a ring of bolts at the hub face.

Hey Super Moderator, I am not sure what your motive is... but if you read my very first blog, you will see that I said this Ranger was customized by a local company... it seems to me that if a person wants a REAL dually, you should buy a big truck... yet it sure does make life fun to play with the smaller trucks and have something a little different... life is short; eat dessert first!
